Iron Ship Builders Are Ready to Serve

The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and Helpers (IBB) are ready to serve and work with the Ship Building industry of Canada.

IBB members work at two of the shipyards that were awarded two major contracts by the Federal government on October 19, 2011. In Halifax, there is $25 Billion for combat ships (Irving Shipbuilding) and $8 billion in Victoria for non-combat ships (Seaspan Shipyards).

Jim Fitzpatrick, Business Manager of Lodge 191, in Victoria said, "This is tremendous news for all of our members and their families for the next 20 to 25 years of steady work."

Kevin Chaisson the Business Manager of Lodge 73 added "Lodge 73 is looking forward to working with Irving Shipbuilding to achieve their goals to build these ships on time and on budget."

Both Joe Maloney, Western Canadian International Vice-President, and Ed Power, Eastern Canadian Vice-President said "The IBB wishes to commend the Federal government on the selection process and congratulate Irving Shipbuilding Inc. and Seaspan Shipyards for their success."

The IBB has been involved in Ship Building in Canada since the 1890's.
