Hydraulic Torquing & Tensioning Equipment and Training Module
Demand for Hydraulic Torquing & Tensioning of bolts and studs on pressure related flanges and heads used with pressure containers and pressure piping has steadily increased and is becoming the preferred method of both Owners and Contractors. The Boilermaker's National Training Trust Fund (NTTF) have recognized the need to develop an effective training module, to ensure members of the organization are properly trained in the safe and efficient use of the equipment.
Grant Jacobs, the National Director of the NTTF remarked, "This type of training is necessary to address and respond to hydraulic torquing and tensioning regulations being written into the ASME code and the CSA-B51 standards." He further added, "The owners and Contractors are now specifying that personnel using this equipment must be certified on the equipment."
NTTF received a substantial educational discount on Hydratight torquing equipment through the Pickford Group. Lodge 73 and Lodge 359 were first in line to place orders for the equipment, although NTTF anticipates other lodges to place orders shortly, ensuring all locals will be able to train their respective members.
Fabrication drawings of the training modules are being developed by Cessco. Once approved each local lodge will receive a set of drawings, enabling the Boilermaker students attending technical training at the area colleges to fabricate the modules as a class project. "The design of the Training Module will allow for ease of transport to and from the various locations where training is required. The modules will fit in the back of a pick-up or trailer to be transported or shipped as is necessary." Grant Jacobs added, "The Boilermakers need to take full advantage of this, by getting this training up and running we are able to offer an additional expertise to our contractors, thereby assisting them to secure future work for Boilermakers."
