Re: Helmets to Hardhats (H2H) Update
As you know our program H2H made the budget. This was the result of the intense lobbying from coast to coast making every MP aware of the program and how it is a win/win/win - meaning government, military and our industries.
Unfortunately all opposition parties are indicating that they will not support the budget and we could be into a spring election as early as next week. If that is the case then we will have to work around and within this hiccup.
It is in our favour that all parties have acknowledged and indicated support for H2H so in my opinion it doesn't matter what the outcome of any election is. H2H will surface again in the next budget.
What we have to do is keep the issue alive in the election process. We need you to continue to contact MP's and remind them that it was in this budget and we still want their continued support.
We are arranging meetings now with the Minister of Veterans Affairs to discuss a path forward and the leaders of the Liberals and NDP for their continued support. Jack Layton is with us 100% but we want to re-affirm with the Liberal Leader.
Bob Blakely, President of the Canadian Building Trades and I have set up a small working committee to outline a "to do" list on next steps so when the time comes we are absolutely ready to go.
We are re-working the business plan and will have copies available shortly for your assistance.
