The Lehigh 3 Are Back to Work

[Click to Enlarge] Lodge D359 members standing their ground during the lockout are now back to work.

After a six month unnecessary lockout by their employer and the hiring of replacement workers to do their jobs, the members of Lodge D359 have returned to work at Lehigh's Regina Cement Terminal as of June 9th. The replacement workers have now been laid off by Lehigh.

Joseph Maloney, International Vice President of Western Canada for the Boilermakers, said "On a day when the temperature reached down to -40, D359 members were locked out by their employer to break these trade unionists. Day in and day out for 6 months these Boilermakers proudly stood on the line as the Saskatchewan labour code allowed a multinational corporation to treat its employees, the people of Saskatchewan, as nothing more than indentured servants."

Rob Lauzon, Assistant Director of the Industrial Sector Operations in Canada, said "On behalf of those members of Lodge D359 and District D-11 I want to thank the whole labour movement of Saskatchewan for your overwhelming support. It went a long way in bringing this dispute to a conclusion."

A question the people of Saskatchewan need to ask themselves at the ballot box is "why vote for a government that creates laws that favour multinational corporations over the rights of the people of Saskatchewan?"

The Boilermakers acknowledge the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour for all their support during this unnecessary lockout. For all the Boilermakers who signed the petition of support, thank you. That backing went a long way.
