At this year's competition, the Donald G. Whan Industry Award of Excellence was retired and renamed to recognize the significant contribution to apprenticeship training by retired International Vice Presidents Richard Albright, Western Canada and Sandy MacDonald, Eastern Canada. Grant Jacobs, National Training Coordinator, said there will be a new honoree chosen each year from the International to be co-named with the industry recipient on the award. This year's Industry Award recipient was Olie Florell from Local 555 in recognition of his commitment to the training of apprentices throughout his boilermaker career.
