$50,000.00 to Rose Daley with the "Daffodil Place Campaign".
On July 3, 2008 Lodge 203 gave the Canadian Cancer society's "Daffodil Place" a $50,000.00 gift that was raised by selling raffle tickets. Lodge 203 members, administration and staff sold tickets to support a recovery room for people who receive treatment to fight cancer in St. Johns, Nfld. The draw was made on Father's Day at Lodge 203 offices.
Local 203 is located in Holyrood, Nfld. and has a membership of 431 members.
John Steele, chairperson of the Daffodil Place Campaign, recognized the contribution and applauded Lodge 203. Steele said, "We are pleased that the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers union has made this very generous contribution to the Daffodil Place Campaign. This donation shows a commitment to improving lives of cancer patients throughout Newfoundland and Labrador".
Tom Walsh, Business Manager for Local 203, says "I want to thank our members for their help in raising $50,000 for such a worthy cause. We are very proud that the members of Local 203 came together to support Daffodil Place. Unions were built on the concept of people helping people and what better way to show we care than to support a great project that will have many benefits for not only our members, but for all of Newfoundland and Labrador".
The Daffodil Place Campaign has reached $4.7 million. Construction of Daffodil Place has begun, with the doors to Daffodil Place set to open in early 2009. The 24-suite facility will provide accommodations for those who must travel to St. John's for cancer treatment.
