Joseph Maloney
International Vice-President, Western Canada

Born and raised in Toronto, Joseph Maloney has been a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers since 1974. Joe got started as an apprentice in Local 128 where he served in many elected offices including Business Manager. In 1991 Joe was a member of the Governor General's Canadian Studies Tour. In 1992, he was appointed International Organizer representing Eastern Canada.

Joe Maloney graduated from the Harvard University Trade Union Program in 1993, and shortly thereafter he was appointed as Director of the Canadian Office for the Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO in Ottawa.

He was elected Secretary-Treasurer of the Building & Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO in January, 2000. Through its affiliated international unions, the Department based in Washington, DC, represents over 3 million tradespeople throughout North America.

At the Building Trades Department, Joe Maloney was the driving force in the establishment of the Helmets to Hardhats Program which links returning military veterans to job and training opportunities in union trades. McGraw Hill Publishing's ENR Magazine named Joe Maloney "2005 Man of the Year" for his work in creating this innovative and outstanding program. Joe was also the driving force behind the Canadian H2H program which was announced in 2011.

In October, 2005 Joe decided to return to his roots and is currently serving as International Vice President for the Boilermakers International representing Western Canada.

Joe and his wife, Jeanette, have been married for over 37 years, and have two children and two grandchildren.
