Lodge 359 Members Giving to Community
Brother Robert Hood, a 12 year member of Lodge 359, recently raised $1,340 for the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society in Sechelt, BC.
Coming across a hike for the Sunshine Coast Hospice, Robert along with his wife and children signed up a team to raise money and awareness about hospices & palliative care. The team goal of $1,000 was surpassed by $340. $835 came from the membership of Lodge 359 and $505 came from family and friends.
Mr. Ali Khan, President of the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society, said "On behalf of all our volunteers & the clients we serve I'd like to thank the Boilermakers Lodge 359 and their members for your generous donation towards the Hike for Hospice. When we were organizing the Hike, we had set two intentions. The first was to raise funds for the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society, a community-based, non-profit organization, whose mission is to provide support for those in our community who are coping with grief, bereavement and end-of-life. With the support of our very generous & caring community we were able to surpass our goal of $15,000 and raised over $24,000. Our second goal was to raise the level of awareness about the importance of hospice care in our community. We want to ensure that people know the options available to them around end of life care and we also want to be there to support people who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Thank you again for your support and we look forward to hosting the Hike again next year."
